New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS): South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will be chief guest at India's 70th Republic Day celebrations.

"150 years of Mahatma and 100 years of Madiba! Good meeting between PM @narendramodi and South Africa President @CyrilRamaphosa on margins of #G20Summit. President Ramaphosa accepted India's invitation to be the chief guest at Republic Day during 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted on Saturday evening.

Narendra Modi invited Ramaphosa to be the chief guest when the two met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had declined India's invitation citing "crowded agenda" during that time, said reports.
