New Delhi, Dec 2 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wished Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and people of his nation on the occasion of Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire of the 2nd century BC.

Modi wished that the special occasion furthered the spirit of brightness and happiness in the lives of the people of Israel.

Wishing Netanyahu, Modi tweeted: "My friend, PM @netanyahu, Happy Hanukkah to you and the people of Israel. May this special occasion further the spirit of brightness and happiness. May everybody be healthy and prosperous."
