Will Rajasthan vote on the basis of my knowledge of Hinduism: Narendra Modi

Jodhpur, Dec 3 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hit back at Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his 'Hindu religion' jibe and said even rishis (priests) could not have complete knowledge on the religion due to its vastness.

Modi said people of Rajasthan will decide whether they will vote by keeping in mind the issue of development or a person's religious identity.

"He was saying that Modi does not have knowledge on Hinduism. Will Rajasthan vote on such an issue that Modi has knowledge on the religion or the state will vote on the issue of development?"

"Even priests never claimed that they have complete knowledge of Hinduism. It is such a vast religion that no man can completely gain knowledge on it," Modi said attacking Gandhi.

"I cannot claim that I have complete knowledge on the religion," he said.

Gandhi had recently attacked the PM over his 'knowledge of Hinduism'.

"What is the essence of Hinduism? What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody... Knowledge is all around you. Every living being has knowledge. Our prime minister says he is a Hindu, but he doesn't understand (the) foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu is he?," Gandhi was quoted as saying by NDTV during a Rajasthan rally recently.

Rajasthan is going to polls on Dec 7 and the results will come out on 11th of the same month.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is ruling the state.
