AgustaWestland: Now Cong will be in deep trouble, says Modi

Sumerpur, Rajasthan, Dec 5 (IBNS) : As Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland chopper deal was extradited to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said his arrest would lead to  disclosures "deeply troubling" the Congress.

Speaking at an election rally in Rajasthan's Sumerpur, PM Modi said, "The VVIP helicopter scam took place during the UPA rule. We investigated the scam after coming to power and caught one of the accused. You must have read in the papers that the government has got him extradited from from Dubai. Who knows what secrets will tumble out once he starts talking?" PM Modi said.

"We brought back the middleman Rajdaar (Chritian Michel) of Naamdaars (Gandhi's) from Dubai. Now even we don't know what deep troubles his statements are going to cause to Naamdaar," Modi, who faces a concerted attack by the opposition-Congress President Rahul Gandhi being the most strident critic of them- on the Rafale fighter jet purchase deal, said.

"People were asking me you used to talk about corruption in 2014. They should ask me what I did in that regard. I asked the bureaucrats to check the files of Naamdaars, the scams they did. Our government won in Supreme Court yesterday, which said that we can re-open their cases. How long can they run? One day they will have to face justice," he said.

India is investigating charges that Michel, a British national, organised bribes to push a Rs. 3,600-crore contract for VVIP helicopters to be purchased for top Indian leaders.

The AgustaWestland case involves the deal to purchase 12 luxury helicopters for use by the President, Prime Minister, former prime ministers and other VIPs, when Manmohan Singh's Congress-led coalition was in power.

Christian Michel's extradition by Dubai on Tuesday night came through on a day Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj held discussions with her UAE counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi.

Continuing his tirade against the Gandhi family, the PM said "Naamdaar" also  looted Rajasthan by giving farmer's land to his relative  (Robert Vadra) at peanut's price. He earned 7 fold profit out of it without even investing a single penny. Shouldn't they be punished? If BJP comes to power in Rajasthan, they will surely go into jail."

"These four generations made corruption their moral. Corruption is the root cause of all our problems. Corruption is a termite, we need to erase it completely. Congress, which made corruption their morality, can they remove it?"

Modi also asked the four generations of the Gandhi family to spell out what they have done. " First give answers to what you did for four generations, then seek answers for what we did for 4 year," he said.
