Malda, Apr 17 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerejee on Thursday had a narrow escape as fire broke out in a hotel room where she was staying in West Bengal's Malda district.

Party MP Derek O'Brien said Banerjee was present in the room when the fire broke out.

The TMC supremo was, however, safe.

"Fire breaks out in Mamata Banerjee's hotel room in Malda. She was in the room when the fire broke...She is safe,"  Derek O'Brien tweeted.

She is in Malda for election campaign.
