Calcutta HC directs CBI to investigate Parui murder case

India Blooms News Service | | 24 Sep 2014, 10:47 pm
Kolkata, Sept 24 (IBNS) In a setback for Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the Parui murder case.

Justice Harish Tandon  directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to hand over all the documents connected with the case to the federal investigating body after he observed that the investigation into the matter was tainted with extraneous interference.

He also directed the CBI to to file its reports before the court over the issue from time to time.

The Parui murder case had created ripples in the political paradigm of West Bengal as  Sagar Ghosh was killed by a group of miscreants, allegedly backed by district Trinamool leaders.

Ghosh had contested and then won as an Independent candidate in the 2013 panchayat polls from Birbhum district in the state.

He decided to contest the polls independently after he was denied a ticket by the TMC.

TMC's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal and 40 others were named in an FIR lodged by Ghosh's wife in  connection with the case.
