Army personnel killed, three injured in gunfight with NSCN militants in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Dec 8 (IBNS): An army jawan was killed and three others were injured in a gun fight with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) militants in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Saturday.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, the troops of 19th Sikh Regiment had launched an operation at a remote area in Longding district.

A top source said that a 10 to 12-member militant group equipped with heavy weapons had taken shelter in the area.

When the army troops reached the area, the militants opened fire upon security personnel and heavy rounds of bullet were exchanged.

During the gun battle, one army jawan was killed and three others were injured.

The deceased army jawan has been identified as Lance Naik Sukhshein Singh and the injured jawans have been identified as Jashbir Singh, Hardeep Singh and Jashbinder Singh.

The injured jawans have been air lifted to Dinjan army camp in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

Army and other security agencies have jointly launched massive operation at several areas in Longding district against the militants.

Three NSCN militants were killed during an encounter with Assam Rifles in Longding district two days ago.

Security personnel had recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition including two AK-56 rifles from the area.
