Assembly Polls: Congress-BJP maintain close fight to clinch Madhya Pradesh as saffron surge halts

Assembly Polls: Congress-BJP maintain close fight to clinch Madhya Pradesh as saffron surge halts

| @indiablooms | 11 Dec 2018, 11:37 am

Bhopal/Jaipur, Dec 11 (INBS): The see-saw battle for capturing the majority in Madhya Pradesh continued as both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress kept fighting for the magic figure since counting of votes for the Assembly polls in the state commenced on Tuesday, throwing up outcomes that are enough causes for worries in the saffron camp led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In other states, results are nearly clear with the Congress registering victories in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, removing the BJP from power.

The Congress is currently leading or have won 101 seats in Rajasthan whereas the BJP is ahead in 71.

Mayawati's BSP is ahead in six seats.

Congress is all set to form the next government in Chhattisgarh where the ruling BJP is ahead in just 13 seats in comparison to 67 seats where Rahul Gandhi's party is currently leading.

However, Madhya Pradesh and the battle for supremacy to clinch power in the heart of the nation have kept people glued to the television with figures changing every moment since morning. As per the latest trends at 4 pm, the Congress is leading in 115 seats while the BJP was ahead in 105. BSP has won four seats so far.

K Chandrasekhar Rao and his TRS will return to power in Telangana where the party has so far been leading in 86 in comparison to Congress which has just managed to be ahead in 23.

In the 40-seat Mizoram assembly, Mizo National Front won 40 seats. The Congress managed to win only five.

The results of the polls in five states are not obviously good news for the ruling BJP in India with the opposition parties, already holding confabulations to oust the Modi government in the 2019 elections, now emboldened by the defeat of the saffron brigade in this round.
