Supreme Court to decide on Rafale deal investigation today

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 14 Dec 2018, 03:55 am

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS): In a major development, the Supreme Court on Friday might give its order on several petitions seeking a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the purchase of 36 French-made Rafale fighter jets by the Centre for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

A bench comprising of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph is likely to deliver its verdict on the issue.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are having a face-off over the Rafale deal (buying of 36 fighter jets by India) ever since former French President Francois Hollande said India had urged France to nominate Indian industrialist Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence Industries as its partner in the Rafale deal.

Though Hollande's claims were denied by the French government, the former stood firm by his statement.
