New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS): Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said he had no regrets about his party not naming him the state's chief minister.

"It's important in life to practice what you preach, and I had said that I would go by the Congress high command's decision on the matter," he told NDTV, adding that he did not protest when state party president Kamal Nath was chosen as the chief minister.

"Like my father, I have no hunger for any post," said the 47-year-old leader.

Saying that the Congress would not rest on its laurels, he said, "The Modi of 2013 is not the Modi of 2018. The cliche - you can fool some people some of the time, you can fool all people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time - works here."

The Congress party on Thursday evening formally announced the name of senior party leader Kamal Nath for the post of chief minister in Madhya Pradesh.

In a press conference, senior party leader AK Antony announced the name of Kamal Nath as the CM of Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress party in a tweet wished the senior leader and wrote: "Our best wishes to Shri @OfficeOfKNath for being elected CM of Madhya Pradesh. An era of change is upon MP with him at the helm."

After hours of intense meetings, Congress President Rahul Gandhi selected  Kamal Nath for the chief ministerial position in Madhya Pradesh where it defeated the BJP with a narrow margin.

Kamal Nath, who pips young Jyotiraditya Scindia in the race for the coveted post, is at present the president of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh.

Just ahead of the decision, Rahul posted a photograph of him with these two leaders on Twitter and captioned it: "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time. - Leo Tolstoy".

In the final results declared on Wednesday morning, the party got 114 seats in the state, two short of simple majority mark of 116 in the 230-member Assembly.

However, it was a comfortable march past the majority mark with BSP chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav lending support of their 2 and one MLAs, respectively. Four Independents who are Congress rebels are also likely to extend support, consolidating the party’s position further.

Accepting defeat, Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the BJP resigned as the Madhya Pradesh chief minister. He said he takes full responsibility for the BJP’s ouster from power in the heartland state.
