Sonia Gandhi unveils DMK leader Karunanidhi's statue in Chennai

Chennai, Dec 16 (IBNS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday unveiled the statue of late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M. Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.

Karunanidhi's statue has been installed beside the statue of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai.

Several key leaders of the nation, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, participated in the event.

The Congress party tweeted: "UPA Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi unveils the statue of Late Shri M. Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam, Chennai. Also in attendance were CP @RahulGandhi, DMK President @mkstalin, CMs of Kerala @vijayanpinarayi, Andhra Pradesh @ncbn & Puducherry @VNarayanasami #VanakkamSoniaGandhi."

Karunanidhi, a five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who had switched to politics from screenwriting, died on Aug 7 at the age of 94.
