Guwahati, Dec 16 (IBNS): Vijay Diwas was celebrated amid with solemnity and military fanfare at Trishakti Corps on Sunday to commemorate the victory of Indian Army over Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
The event commenced with Lt Gen C.P. Mohanty, GOC, Trishakti Corps, laying the wreath at the War Memorial, to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice made by the valiant soldiers of the Trishakti Corps during the War.
The function was graced by the veterans of the 1971 War along with other Ex-Servicemen, their families and school children from various schools.
A large number of military officials and their families attended the celebration.
The wreath-laying ceremony was followed by a visit to the Trishakti Corps Museum which showcases the stories of heroism and sacrifices made by valiant soldiers of the Corps.
The museum, which is open to the public, also displays the weapons used by Indian Soldiers and also those which were captured from the enemy during the War. The main attractions are captured flags, maps and the Instrument of Surrender of the 1971 War.
