New Delhi, Dec 17 (IBNS): A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbouring person at her home in Delhi on Sunday, the police said.

The incident happened in Bindapur area of the city, exactly six years after the Dec 16, 2012 gangrape incident that had left the nation shocked.

The accused, who worked as a guard, was caught by the minor's family and neighbours and thrashed when he tried to flee from the spot.

The girl was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Commissioner for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal tweeted: "Really troubled. Been more than 2 hrs. The girl is still in the Operation Theater. Her mother is inconsolable. On this very night, 6 years back Nirbhaya was brutally raped. Nothing has changed. Until swiftness & certainty of strong punishment is ensured, nothing will change!."

Delhi Police said the accused has been arrested.

"The accused person who is a resident of the same locality has been arrested. Delhi Police is carrying out expeditious investigation. Medical aid is being provided to the victim and as per doctors her condition is stable. Necessary help is also being provided to victim's family," police tweeted.
