Labelling India with religious intolerance is like treason: Ramdev on Naseeruddin Shah's remark

New Delhi, Dec 23 (IBNS): Yoga guru Ramdev has hit out at veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah's remark where the latter expressed concern over growing religious intolerance in the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event on Saturday, Ramdev said as quoted by NDTV, "Naseeruddin Shah has earned his popularity due to love of common people. I have not seen religious intolerance. I, of course, see political intolerance. I think accusing India of religious intolerance is equal to degrading country's pride."

"Labelling one's own country with religious intolerance is akin to ungratefulness, disrespect and treason," he added.

Shah had made the statement while commenting on the Bulandshahr violence, where a police officer was killed by a frenzied mob over suspicion of cow slaughter.

On Monday, in an interview with Karwan-e-Mohabbat, Shah said: "There is complete impunity for those who take law into their own hands. In many areas we are witnessing that the death of a cow is more significance than that of a police officer."

“I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks, ‘Are you a Hindu or a Muslim,’ they will have no answer. It worries me that I don’t see the situation improving anytime soon,” the 68-year old actor added.

On Dec 3, police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a student, Sumit Kumar, were killed in mob violence in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district after cow carcasses were found.

Local Bajrang Dal leader Yogesh Raj, who is the main accused in the case, is yet to be arrested.
