Kolkata, Dec 24 (IBNS): Popular Rabindra Sangeet singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay died in Kolkata on Monday.

He was suffering from several age-related ailments, reports said.

He was 91.

Dwijen Mukhopadhyay was an Indian composer and singer, who has been working in the field of music for the last six decades.

He is an accomplished performer of Rabindrasangeet, Bengali basic songs, Bengali and Hindi film songs.

He has recorded more than 1500 songs, of which about 800 are songs of Rabindranath Tagore.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mourned his death and described it as a 'personal loss'.

"I am at a loss for words. Dwijen Da (Mukherjee) is no more. End of an era. Huge loss for the music industry of #Bangla. This is also a personal loss. We had felicitated him with 'Banga Bibhushan' award in 2011. Condolences to his family and fans," she tweeted.
