President Kovind, PM Modi wish countrymen on Christmas

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wished countrymen on the occasion of Christmas.

The President's office tweeted to say, "Merry Christmas to all fellow citizens, especially our Christian brothers and sisters in India and abroad. This is a time to be with family and friends, a time for peace and piety. May Christmas bring hope and happiness to our country and our shared planet #PresidentKovind"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. We remember the noble teachings of Jesus Christ and recall his efforts towards creating a compassionate and equal society."

On Dec 25, festival Christmas is celebrated in various parts of the world to commemorate the birth of religious leader Jesus Christ.

Other political leaders also wished:

Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Merry Christmas to you all!"

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who was present at St. Paul's Cathedral in Kolkata for midnight prayer on Monday, tweeted, " I wish all my brothers and sisters around the world #MerryChristmas. In #Bengal we celebrate #Christmas in a grand manner. Do visit Park Street for the @KolChristmas Festival. Spread the message of peace and joy to the world"

CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury tweeted, "Merry Christmas! #Joy #Fraternity #Peace"

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar tweeted, "Merry Christmas to all."
