Indian politicians remember former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on birthday

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered former Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary on Tuesday.

Remembering the late leader, Modi tweeted: " Tributes to Atal Ji on his Jayanti. We reiterate our commitment towards creating the India he dreamt of."

President Ram Nath Kovind posted: "President Kovind paid homage to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, on his birth anniversary at the samadhi of Atal Ji 'Sadaiv Atal' in New Delhi."

Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said: " Greetings to fellow Indians on Good Governance Day. It recognizes the importance of governance in taking the benefits of government schemes to the most deserving. Accountability, transparency in administration is essential in governance process that needs to be endowed by all. "

The Congress party said: "Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a leader who was respected and loved by all. A man who believed in the power of democracy above all. We honour him today on his birth anniversary."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji on his birth anniversary. He was a statesman who rose above partisan politics for the country’s good. We miss him a lot."

Vajpayee, a three-time Prime Minister of India, a Bharat Ratna and a stalwart of Indian politics who represented the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),  passed away this year.

He was 93.
