Congress is master at misleading farmers: PM Modi

Dharamshala, Oct 27 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused the Congress of making false promises to farmers.

Addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala, Modi said: "Congress is a master at misleading farmers."

"Their fake promises and tokenism will not cut ice with the hardworking farmers of India," the PM said.

He said everyone knows that the kind of loan waiving the Congress is claiming cannot be given yet they are lying to the farmers.

"They are simply doing this for getting votes in the elections," claimed Modi.

"To win elections you're fooling the youth. To win elections you're stabbing the farmer in the back," he said.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi earlier kept his promise of waiving farm loans in the three states where the party came to power in the recently-concluded Assembly elections.

The Congress has formed the governments in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, all of which were ruled by the BJP.

"It's done! Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh have waived farm loans. We asked for 10 days. We did it in 2," Rahul tweeted after the third state, Rajasthan, made the farm loan waiver announcement.

Following the Congress governments' action in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the BJP governments in Assam and Gujarat had also waived rural electricity bills and farm loans in the two states.

The waivers had cost the Gujarat and Assam governments Rs 650 crore and Rs 600 crore respectively, media reports said.

Following the developments in Gujarat and Assam, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to take a jibe at the BJP governments in the two states and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The Congress party has managed to wake the CMs of Assam & Gujarat from their deep slumber. PM is still asleep. We will wake him up too," he had said.
