Day after SC verdict, CBI chief Alok Verma back at work

| @indiablooms | Jan 09, 2019, at 12:25 pm

New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS): CBI director Alok Verma was back at work on Wednesday, a day after the Supreme Court reinstated him as the Central Bureau of Investigation chief, said reports.

The apex court's Tuesday decision is seen as a setback to the Centre that had sent Verma on leave.

Verma, however, cannot take any major policy decision till the selection committee meets to decide on his continuation. The Supreme Court has asked the committee to meet within seven days.

Verma’s tenure as CBI director ends on January 31.

The case revolves around Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana swapping bribe charges.

The Narendra Modi government at the Centre had told the judges that the decision had to be taken because the CBI's top two officers had been fighting for months like "Kilkenny cats", a reference to a poem where two cats fight till both die.
