Miracles happen. We have to keep trying: SC on Meghalaya miners
New Delhi, Jan 11 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday chided the Meghalaya government regarding its unsatisfactory efforts to rescue the 15 miners trapped in an illegal mine since mid-December, media reports said.
“We do not know if they are dead or alive. But miracles can happen. So we have to keep trying until we have some result,” the bench comprising Justices A.K. Sikri and S. Abdul Nazeer told the government, The Indian Express reported.
Since the facility is illegal, no blueprint is available of the 355-feet deep mine to aide rescuers.
The state government said while one crore litres of water had been pumped out from the mine, seepage from the nearby river continued to create problems.
Indian Navy divers, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire fighters from Odisha Fire Services have so far been engaged in the rescue operation.
