Another movie named Disastrous PM should be made: Mamata Banerjee reacts after release of The Accidental Prime Minister
Kolkata, Jan 11 (IBNS): Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi without naming him over the movie The Accidental Prime Minister, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was once a part of the Congress party, said a movie named 'Disastrous PM’ should also be released. She made the comments on a day when a cinema hall screen in a multiplex was torn up by alleged Congress activists.
Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress was once a part of the UPA 2 regime but broke out of it over the issue of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2012. Manmohan Singh was the PM of the country at that time.
In her political career, Banerjee had also quit Congress to form her own political outfit TMC.
Attacking the PM over the movie, which is based on former PM Manmohan Singh, Mamata said: " A film called ‘The Accidental PM’ has been released before the elections. Everybody is then an ‘Accidental PM’. I could not understand the meaning."
"I am no longer in the Congress party. There is a difference between them and us. I have formed a separate party – Trinamool Congress. But in my view, facts should not be changed and what has been done is not right, she said.
"I have to say that those who are creating a drama before the elections regarding ‘The Accidental PM’ should watch out if any film by the name ‘Disastrous PM’ is released. It may be made in near future too," Banerjee said.
The movie met opposition in Kolkata on Friday when screening of it was reportedly cancelled 15 minutes after it started at a theatre in central Kolkata.
Youth Congress protested against the movie outside a theatre hall in the city, reports said. Later people on social media posted images of the screen of Quell Mall torn up by the protesters. Audience watched the film on the torn screen after a 20 minute delay, said reports.
The movie, which features actor Anupam Kher as Singh, released on Friday.
The biographical movie is directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte.
It is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru.
A movie on Modi is actually on the cards:
The first look poster of the movie on PM Narendra Modi was released recently.
Vivek Oberoi is playing the character of the PM in the movie.
The biopic is titled 'PM Narendra Modi'.
Directed by Omung Kumar, the first look poster of the film was launched in 23 languages by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.
The movie is produced by Suresh Oberoi and Sandip S Singh.
