Indian Coast Guard takes enhanced security measures for Ganga Sagar Mela
Kolkata, Jan 11 (IBNS): With the forthcoming Ganga Sagar Mela the Indian Coast Guard has enhanced the surveillance along the coast line of West Bengal by ensuring presence of its assets which includes hovercraft, high speed patrol vessels and interceptor boats.
Hovercrafts are being deployed round the clock throughout the mela. The crafts being amphibious in nature facilitate smooth execution of SAR/ Security Cover over land/riverine route.
In addition, a life saving rapid action team comprising of rubber Gemini boats with divers are deployed during the mela to thwart off any threat/ such development emanating from sea/drowning.
Coast Guard Fast Patrol Vessels/ Interceptor boats are continuously maintaining seaward side close to coast patrol. To provide enhanced safety and security, aerial cover by coast guard advanced Offshore Patrolling Vessel (OPV) with integral Helo embarked onboard are deployed off Sagar island. In addition, ICG Dorniers from Kolkata and Bhubaneswar will augment seaward security by carrying out regular sorties to strengthen the existing security measures.
The Coast Guard has also maintained electronic surveillance through Coastal Security Network (CSN) system. The Coast Guard operations centre at Haldia is in continuous contact with the Coast Guard assets deployed at sea for effective coordination with various stakeholders and state security agencies.
