Samarkand, Jan 13 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday met Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rasit Meredow on the sidelines of the India-Central Asia Dialogue and the two leaders discussed issues related to enhancing bilateral cooperation across sectors.

Swaraj arrived for the dialogue in Samarkand on Jan 12.

Swaraj co-chaired the Dialogue along with Abdulaziz Kamilov, the host and the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted: "EAM @SushmaSwaraj met the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rasit Meredow on the sidelines of the India-Central Asia Dialogue in #Samarkand. Discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation across sectors."

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to all the five Central Asian countries in 2015 and External Affairs Minister’s Central Asia tour in August 2018, the India-Central Asia Dialogue, with the participation of Afghanistan, is expected to strengthen India’s engagement, including political, economic, development partnership and cultural, with all the Central Asian countries and take it to a new level, the External Affairs Ministry had earlier said in a statement.
