Assam Rifles seizes narcotics worth Rs 5.78 crore in Manipur
Imphal, Jan 13 (IBNS): Security forces seized narcotics worth Rs 5.78 crore and detained one person in Manipur on Sunday.
According to reports, the Tengnoupal battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one narcotics smuggler carrying 1,44,000 WY tablets and 732 grams brown sugar worth approximately Rs 5.78 crore from Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP), Khudengthabi.
Based on specific inputs received from a reliable source, the security forces stopped a silver Maruti Omini Van, bearing registration No MN-04A-8994 (silver colour) travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking.
The search revealed blue coloured packets with 1,44,000 tablets and orange colour powder packets suspected to be brown sugar weighing approximately 732 grams hidden inside charcoal bags kept at the rear of the vehicle.
Security personnel detained the smuggler, identified as Noor Khan from Thoubal district.
A top official of Assam Rifles said the WIY tablets were in 720 pouches weighing and worth Rs 4.32 crore. The brown sugar was in in 54 pouches and worth approximately Rs 1.46 crore.
Assam Rifles have handed over Khan and the seized narcotics to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal.
