New Delhi, Jan 16 (IBNS): Amid row over their appointments, the Centre on Wednesday elevated Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Delhi High Court Judge, Sanjiv Khanna, to the Supreme Court, media reports said.

After getting cleared, the recommendations made by the Collegium have been signed off by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Controversy:

The controversy erupted after a section of former judges and lawyers opined that the Collegium had dropped two different names before making the fresh recommendations.

It also said Justice Maheshwari was not considered to be elevated in the meeting of the Collegium but was later named abruptly.

Justice Khanna's name was also dragged into controversy as he is said to be the number 33 in the All India Seniority list of the HC judges.

Former Delhi High Court Judge Kailash Gambhir had written a letter to the President saying that superceding 32 senior judges would mark a "black day" in the judiciary history of the country.
