India deports 21 more Bangladeshi nationals through Assam’s Karimganj

Guwahati, Jan 19 (IBNS): While the updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) ison in Assam to detect the illegal foreigners, the Assam government today has deported 21 Bangladeshi nationals back to their country.

The 21 Bangladeshi nationals - 19 male and two female - have been deported through legal procedures from International border at Sutarkandi in Karimganj district.

According to the reports, the Bangladeshi nationals had entered India without valid documents from different parts of Assam and Meghalaya at different times.

They were arrested earlier and lodged at Silchar detention camp in the past two to four years.

The deported Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Bablu Ahmed, Suman Fakir, Masum Ahmed, Nazim Uddin, Asraful Alom Choudhury, Liton Kanta Das, Tofique Ali, Raju Ahmed, Dilwar Hussain, Abdus Sukkur, Shamim Ahmed, Rubel Ahmed, Sabel Ahmed, Khayrul Islam, Ramjan Ali, Jahida Begum, Sufia Begum, Abdul Wahid, Nasir Hussain, Mir Pabel Mia and Sofiqul Islam. They are from Bangladesh’s Sylhet, Gopalganj, Tangail, Mymensing, Rangpur, Kishoreganj, Kanaighat districts.

Officials of the Union home ministry, Assam government, Assam police, Bangladesh Border Guards were present during the deportation process.

“The 21 illegal Bangladeshis were apprehended in past years from 2015. After the judicial process, they were lodged at detention centre at Silchar and after completing all formalities for deportation process we have got formal approval from the Union Home ministry and High Commissioner of Bangladesh to deport them,” Abdul Wakis, Karimganj district border police officer said.

India had deported 52 Bangladeshi nationals from Assam’s Mankachar check post in July last year.

In 2017, 17 Bangladeshi nationals were deported to Bangladesh through the international border in Assam’s Karimganj district.

A total of 5,234 Bangladeshi nationals were deported in 2013, while the figures were 989 in 2014, 474 in 2015 and 308 in 2016.
