Narcotics worth crores seized in Manipur

Guwahati, Jan 19 (IBNS): Assam Rifles seized a large quantity of contraband drugs worth of several crores of rupees in Manipur on Friday evening, officials said on Saturday.

Tengnoupal battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), have seized a huge cache of drugs containing 12,000 World is Yours (WIY) tablets, 96 grams of heroine and 1.644kg of brown sugar from a Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP) at Khudengthabi.

A top official of Assam Rifles said acting on specific information regarding the transportation of drugs, a team of Tengnoupal battalion, stopped a Maruti Brezza vehicle travelling from Moreh to Shillong for checking at Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP) Khudengthabi at around 5:30 pm on Friday.

The team diligently checked the vehicle and recovered narcotics concealed in the vehicle. 

The driver a resident of Kangpokpi in Senapati district confessed to transporting the contrabands.

The driver, contraband drugs and vehicle have been handed over to Anti Smuggling Unit, Custom Division in Imphal.
