West Bengal: TMC, BJP activists clash in Durgapur ahead of PM Modi's visit

Kolkata/Durgapur, Feb 2 (IBNS): Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to West Bengal's steel city Durgapur, activists of BJP and state's ruling TMC on Friday night engaged in a clash with each other over the alleged removal of Modi's cutouts, reports said.

Local BJP leaders alleged that TMC activists tore apart the posters, banners and placards of Narendra Modi, and also replaced Prime Minister's cutouts with Mamata Banerjee's posters across Durgapur town in West Burdwan district of West Bengal.

When BJP workers protested against it, they were threatened and beaten up by local Trinamool leaders, BJP leaders claimed.

"Besides tearing apart Prime Minister Narendra Modi's posters and cutouts, TMC men attacked our activists who protested against it," a state BJP leader told IBNS.

"They also threw ink on the photos of Narendra Modi at several areas in Durgapur town's Ward no. 26 on Saturday morning," the leader added.

However, BJP leaders have registered complaints with the police when local TMC leadership denied their involvement with the incidents.
