Only two women of menstrual age entered Sabarimala, claims Kerala govt
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 5 (IBNS): The Kerala government has claimed only two women on menstrual age had entered the Sabarimala temple since the Supreme Court overturned the ban on such women, reports said.
Replying to a question by Congress legislators in the Assembly, devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said only two women had entered the shrine according to official records. Whether the Sri Lankan woman who had claimed to have entered actually did is still being ascertained.
Last month, a controversy had emerged after several women, who were named in the Kerala government released list of females who entered the Saraimala Temple, claimed that they do not belong to the menstruating age.
The Supreme Court in its verdict last year allowed women between the ages of 10 and 50 to enter the shrine triggering a wave of protests that almost divided the people.
The norm was not accepted by several followers of the temple for ages.
A list of names along with their age and Aadhaar details was also submitted to the court during a recent hearing into the petition seeking security for two women who claimed to have entered the temple for the first time since the verdict was announced.
