Modi intervened to benefit Anil Ambani in Rafale: Rahul Gandhi citing Hindu report
New Delhi: Citing The Hindu report which produced a letter of the Defence Ministry that purportedly requested the Prime Minister's Office to not intervene in the defece deal with France in the Rafale aircraft negotiations, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said it is clearly evident that the Prime Minister himself was involved in the defence deal so that it benefits industrialist Anil Ambani.
"This is an open and shut case," said Rahul at a press conference in Delhi accusing Modi directly of playing a role in the Rafale deal.
In the middle of the political fight between the BJP and Congress over the Rafale deal, a The Hindu report on Friday stated the Defence Ministry had protested against PMO's separate parleys with the French government on the controversial deal of buying 36 fighter jets by India.
Rahul Gandhi asked who was the PM working for parallelly? "Not for you and me? It is for Anil Ambani. It proves that Chowkidaar is a thief", he said.
"The Prime Minister has stolen 30,000 crore and given it to his friend Anil Ambani," he alleged.
Speaking on Rafale only a day ago in Parliament, PM Modi said, "Defence Minister had answered to all the allegations in detail and the controversy was being created by those who think no defence deal can be done without kickbacks."
The BJP had earlier cornered the Congress by getting key people extradited to India in the AugustaWestland chopper deal that pointed fingers at the Gandhis' involvement during the UPA regime.
