Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day, Lok Sabha till 12 pm as Opposition raises uproar over Rafale revelation by The Hindu
New Delhi, Feb 8 (IBNS) : Amid persistent uproar by the opposition, the Rajya Sabha was on Friday adjourned for the day following demand for discussion on The Hindu's revelation on the Rafale deal.
The Lok Sabha too was adjourned till 12 pm over the same issue.
Soon after it Assembled, members of the Rajya Sabha sought a discussion on The Hindu's expose on Rafale issue which says that he Defence Ministry had protested against PMO's separate parleys with the French government on the controversial deal of buying 36 fighter jets by India.
The Chairperson of the Upper House said that the matter can be taken up after the Motion of Thanks to the President's address. However, Opposition members kept insisting on immediate discussion.
As the high decibel noise refused to die down making it impossible to carry on with the proceedings, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till Monday.
The Lok Sabha too assembled with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan proceeding with Question Hour. But the Opposition members insisted discussion on various issues, including the Rafale one, making inaudible the questions and answers. The House was adjourned till noon.
The Hindu report said the Defence Ministry had objected to PMO's parallel talks with the French government.
The Defence Ministry's objection has been quoted by The Hindu, "We may advise PMO that any Officers who are not part of Indian Negotiating Team may refrain from having parallel parlays [parleys] with the officers of French Government,” it suggested that “in case the PMO is not confident about the outcome of negotiations being carried out by the MoD, a revised modality of negotiations to be led by PMO at appropriate level may be adopted in the case.”
In the Supreme Court, however, the government had stated a seven-member team headed by the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff conducted the negotiations but did not mention PMO's intervention.
