BJP and Shiv Sena announce alliance for Lok Sabha, Assembly polls

| @indiablooms | Feb 18, 2019, at 08:37 pm

Mumbai, Feb 18 (IBNS): Shiv Sena and the BJP announced on Monday their alliance for the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Maharashtra.

"We have decided to come together for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections," NDTV quoted chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP as saying.

Fadnavis admitted the two party had "some differences" but since they shared the same ideology they were joining hands to meet the challenge of "some people coming together".

Citing sources, NDTV said the BJP is likely to contest from 25 seats, and the Shiv Sena from 23. For the Assembly elections scheduled to take place in the state later this year, both the parties will contest from an equal number of seats.

The Shiv Sena had lately been publicly attacking the BJP, its longtime ally. Fadnavis had met Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at his home last week.
