Kolkata, Feb 19 (IBNS): Anuj Sharma has been appointed as the new Kolkata Police Chief on Tuesday, officials said.

In a major reshuffle in the IPS cadre, West Bengal government on Tuesday transferred as many as 14 senior police officials in the state, reports said.

A week after facing the CBI interrogation in Shillong for more than 35 hours in connection with the Saradha scam investigation, Rajeev Kumar, who had served as the Kolkata Police chief for last three years, was transferred to the post of state Criminal Investigation Department (CID)'s ADG and IGP.

West Bengal Police's ADG (Law & Order) Anuj Sharma has replaced Rajeev Kumar as the Kolkata CP, according to a transfer order published by the state government.

Meanwhile, ADG & IGP of WB Intelligence Branch (IB), Siddh Nath Gupta, and ADG of state CID, Sanjay Singh, have been transferred to the posts of ADG (Law & Order) and ADG (South Bengal) respectively.

ADG (South Bengal), Niraj Kumar Singh, has been transferred as the ADG of Bengal IB.

Director of Directorate of Economic Offences, Vishal Garg, has replaced another senior IPS official Tanmay Ray Chaudhury as the Commissioner of Howrah City Police.

Tanmoy Ray Chaudhury has been transferred as the DIG of Burdwan Range.

Meanwhile, the Circle Officer (CO) of Special Armed Police (SAP)'s 2nd battalion, Rashid Munir Khan, and the SP of Baruipur Police District, Ajoy Prasad, have replaced each other, according to reports.

The state administration made the transfers with immediate effect as per the norms of the Election Commission of India (ECI) which states that police officials involved in the poll duty can not be in the same post for more than three years.
