Jammu, Mar 8 (UNI): To dodge police, the prime accused in the Jammu grenade attack had transported the explosive in a biryani-filled lunch box, sources said.
The attack at Jammu's main bus stand on Thursday killed two people and injured 31.
''It was absolutely a new type of modus operandi used by the accused to export the explosive device (grenade) all the way from Kulgam to Jammu,'' the source told UNI.
They said that he used this idea only to dodge the police, as there were a number of check points installed along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
''The grenade was hidden in the biryani-filled lunch box and it helped him to easily carry the grenade to Jammu," the source added.
The prime accused wasn't involved in any terrorism-related activity earlier.
"He belongs to a poor family and was allured with Rs 10,000 by the Hizbul commander of Kulgam to carry out a grenade attack in Jammu and also handed him the explosive device,” the source added.
The source further said the 11 persons who traveled in the passenger taxi from Kulgam to Jammu were detained for questioning and were released later except the cab driver Shoukat, a resident of Kulgam, believed to be another suspect.
He is being questioned.
One person was killed and 32 were injured in a powerful grenade blast at Jammu bus stand on Thursday. Another person succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Director-general of police Dilbag Singh on Friday rewarded the Jammu district police personnel with commendation certificates class-I along with cash prizes and appreciation letters for their excellent work done in nabbing the accused involved in the case.
