DNA evidence proves youth guilty of raping minor, convicted & imposed Rs 20k fine

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) A Special Court here on Tuesday convicted a 27-year-old man under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, stated the order copy on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, the accused committed rape on the minor owing to which she got pregnant and had to undergo physical and mental hardships while abortion.

The prosecution said that the incident came into light when the victim girl exhibited pregnancy signs and it was confirmed medically that the girl was four-and-half months pregnant.

Later,the victim girl narrated the entire episode where the accused took her to a lodge in the Titwala suburb on the pretext of celebrating her birthday and raped her with the threat of not disclosing his misdeed,mentioned the prosecution.

The youth was held guilty based on the testimonies of 13 witnesses and corroborating DNA evidence.
