Phagwara, Mar 16 (UNI/IBNS): More than 30 temporary shops and seven shanties of migrants have been gutted in a fire, which broke out in Kalsi Nagar market of Phillaur.

However, there was no report of any human casualty.

Fire tenders from Phagwara and Ludhiana rushed to the spot on Friday night. It took them more than four hours to control the flames.

Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh Attri, who rushed to the site, said that small shops of shoes, general goods, clothes and readymade garments were destroyed in the blaze.

Fire brigade staff of Phagwara alleged that they had to face much inconvenience and difficulty to get sufficient water to tackle the flames in Phillaur.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress General Secretary Vikramjit Singh rushed to the site and met the victims. He assured maximum compensation from the state government to the victim families, who had suffered losses in the incident.
