No BSP-Congress alliance anywhere in the country: Mayawati
Lucknow, Mar 18 (IBNS): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday clearly stated her party is having no alliance with Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, a day after the oldest political outfit left seven seats in Uttar Pradesh for the alliance between BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP).
Hitting out Congress, which is running the Madhya Pradesh government in support of BSP, Mayawati tweeted, "BSP once again clears that it has no understanding or an alliance with Congress in any part of the country including Uttar Pradesh. Our people should not get misled by the words of Congress."
"Congress is free to field its candidates in all 80 seats which means the alliance is able to defeat BJP on its own. Congress should not mislead people," the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said in a follow up tweet.
However, the SP-BSP alliance did not field any candidate in Amethi and Rae Bareli seats, which are considered to be the Congress bastions.
While Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is the sitting MP from Amethi, Rae Bareli is held by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
What were the results in UP in 2014 Lok Sabha polls?
Out of 80 parliamentary seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had swept by winning 71 seats. Mayawati's BSP had failed to even open its account.
The BJP is presently ruling Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
