New Delhi/London, Mar 18 (UNI): TheBJP on Monday welcomed the issuing of warrant against fugitive businessman Nirav Modi, who is wanted in India in the Rs 13,600 crore PNB scam, by a London court and said the development reflects success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic efforts.

"The issuing of the arrest warrant by a Westminster court against Nirav Modi reflects success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic efforts," BJP leader and Union Minister Dr Harshvardhan tweeted in Hindi.

The missive from the Minister came shortly after a London court has issued an arrest warrant against jewellery designer Nirav Modi, the main accused in the PNB scam case.

The arrest warrant has been issued by the Westminster court in response to an ED request for his extradition in a money laundering case, sources said.

"Chowkidar chaukanna hae (The country's custodian is alert)," he wrote.

He further said 'crores of custodians' are today alert and thus the wrongdoers have lost all their sleep.

The ED officials and government of India have been informed about the issuance of the warrant by the Westminster Magistrate Court against Nirav Modi.

Sources said a similar procedure was followed when absconding liquor businessman Vijay Mallya was arrested by the London police after a warrant was issued based on the ED's request to extradite him to India.

Vijay Mallya's case is in final stages in London now, sources said.

Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, are the main accused in the PNB fraud and they reportedly left India before the details of the scam came to light in January 2018.
