Lucknow, Mar 19 (IBNS): Hitting out at Narendra Modi's latest "Main Bhi Chowkidar (I am also a gatekeeper)" campaign, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday said the Prime Minister has assumed a new identity and he is no more a "chaiwala (tea-seller)".

Mayawati took to Twitter to say, "After BJP launch 'Mai Bhi Chowkidar' campaign, PM Modi & others added the prefix 'Chowkidar' to their Twitter handles. So now Narendra Modi is Chowkidar & no more a 'Chaiwala' which he was at the time of last LS election. What a change India is witnessing under BJP rule. Bravo!"

Main Bhi Chowkidar campaign:

On last Saturday, Modi shared a video on social media which highlighted the initiatives of his government.

He shared the video with the caption that read: "our Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar."

The video ends with an appeal to join Modi's "Main Bhi Chowkidar" programme on Mar 31.

The campaign was launched amid Congress president Rahul Gandhi's attacks targeting the PM over numerous issues with the slogan "Chowkidar Chor Hai (watchman is a thief)".

Modi and other BJP leaders join campaign:

A day after launching the "Main Bhi Chowkidar" campaign on the social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday added a prefix "Chowkidaar" to the title of his Twitter account.

The title now reads "Chowkidar Narendra Modi".

The trend was followed by several BJP leaders including party chief Amit Shah.
