#LokSabhaPoll: DMK manifesto promises probe into Rafale aircraft deal

Chennai, Mar 19 (UNI/IBNS) The election manifesto of the Opposition DMK in Tami Nadu on Tuesday promised a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Rafale aircraft deal of the present BJP-led NDA government.

Releasing the manifesto, DMK President M K Stalin, who is heading the Secular Progressive Alliance in the State, that included Congress, which was highly critical of the deal, said allegations of serious irregularities have been levelled in connection with the purchase of Rafale aircraft for IAF.

'It has been alleged that the Prime Minsiter's Office, brushing aside the objection raised by the Ministry of Defence, established contact with the French Company in this matter'.

'DMK will insist on the formation of a JPC to probe the matter to bring out the facts', he added.

The Rafale aircraft has been one of the dominating issues in this elections with accusations of irregularities by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and strong counter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Stalin said the seizure of Rs 570 crore in three containers during the 2016 Assembly elections in the state would also be probed.

He also promised steps to unearth illegal and black money in the State as a follow up action in the wake of recent IT raids after which the matter was not taken forward, besides CBI probe into Kodanadu estate murder and robbery in which highly placed persons were alleged to be involved.
