Kalyan Singh should resign for demeaning office of governor: Congress
New Delhi, Mar 25 (UNI): Charging Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh of violating the dignity of his post by saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi should win the upcoming elections, the Congress party on Monday sought his immediate resignation.
The party also urged the President to sack him if he failed to resign on his own.
Talking to reporters here, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said: "Honourable Kalyan ji's political comment and seeking votes for the BJP is undermining all the constitutional obligations. He has demeaned the office of the Governor. If he has some honour for the Constitution, he should step down from the post without wasting a moment. Else the President should sack him."
According to media reports, On March 23 in Aligarh, Mr Singh had said: "We all are BJP workers and we want the BJP to emerge victorious. We want that once again Modiji should become the PM. It is important for the country."
Mr Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1991-92 and he was appointed as governor of Rajasthan after the BJP came to power in 2014.
