EC, IT department seize over Rs 49.65 crore in Assam, Arunachal, Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya

Guwahati, Mar 26 (IBNS): In past two weeks after the Model Code Conduct came into force, the Election Commission and Income Tax department have seized over Rs 49.65 crore cash in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

According to the reports, during the period, the EC and IT department have seized over Rs 22.60 crore cash alone in Manipur.

The Flying Squad and Surveillance Teams constituted by the EC and IT department have seized Rs 4.20 crore in Assam, Rs 2.28 crore in Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 57.10 lakh in Nagaland and Rs 20 lakh from Meghalaya.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the EC had seized Rs 34.90 lakh from Longding district, while Rs 14.50 lakh from Nirjuli near Itanagar and Rs 11.11 lakh from East Siang district in past three days.

Apart from cash, police had seized illegal arms, explosives also in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Arunachal Pradesh police had seized three point 32 revolvers, four 12 bore SBB guns, nine air guns, three .22 bore rifles, 695 daos (sword), 80 detonators, 735 grams of opium from different parts of the state within a week.

Recently, the Government Railway Police had seized 540,000 US Dollars worth rupees three crores and 78 lakhs in Indian currency from Guwahati railway station and arrested two persons in connection with it.

The Lok Sabha election and assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh will be held on April 11, while the Lok Sabha polls in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram to be held on April 11.

The polls in Manipur and Tripura will be held on April 11 and 18, while 14 seats in Assam to be held on April 11, 18 and 23.
