EC official caught red-handed while accepting bribe in Assam’s Cachar district

Guwahati, Mar 28 (IBNS): The Assam Police caught an official of Election department red-handed while accepting a bribe in Assam’s Cachar district on Thursday evening.

According to the reports, a team of the Anti-Corruption branch of Assam Police caught a senior assistant of Election office in Cachar district, identified as Atoshi Tapadar, red-handed while she was accepting a bribe amount of Rs 30,000 from complainant Sujit Kr. Chanda, Proprietor of Gana Awaz Offset Printing Works, Silchar.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused.

The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 95,000 for receiving of bill amount of Rs 1,17,500 by the complainant for the work of Election Form No. 6 and 8.

The complainant was asked to pay an amount of Rs 30,000 out of the total bribe amount.

Thus, the complainant had approached the ACB Police Station in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam and a team of officers was dispatched from Guwahati to Silchar for laying a trap.

The trap was laid down as per standard operation in the matter after registration of a case.

The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in her office chamber in the district election office in Silchar town.

During a search of her belongings another amount of approx. Rs 3 lakh has been recovered and seized.

The accused public servant has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court at Guwahati.
