Congress replaces Maharajganj candidate, fields senior journalist
Lucknow, Mar 29 (UNI) As the criticism flowed in for fielding a person whose parents are in jail, convicted for a murder, the Congress party has hurriedly replaced its candidate from Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat.
Late on Thursday night, Congress announced the name of Tanushree Tripathi, daughter of jailed politician Amarmani Tripathi, from Maharajganj parliamentary seat.
However, on Friday morning, Congress replaced Tripathi with a senior journalist Supriya Shrinate.

Ironically, earlier this month, Tripathi was announced as the official candidate of Shivpal Singh Yadav-led recently floated party-- Pragasheel Samajwadi Party Lohia.
Tripathi, was instrumental in the win of his brother Amanmani, as an Independent candidate during the 2017 state Assembly Polls.
Meanwhile, the new Congress candidate Shrinate is new to electoral politics though her father Harshvardhan was a renowned political of eastern UP and parliamentarian for several terms from Maharajganj.
In her tweet just, after her name was announced, Supriya said, “I will be taking an active plunge in politics, am grateful to Congress, its president Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Dandhi and Jyoti Scindia for trusting me with Maharajganj. It will be an honour to keep my late father’s legacy alive. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution.”
Supriya was the executive editor of a renowned financial channel.
Maharajganj goes to polls in the last and seventh phase of polling on May 19.
