Liquor, cash worth Rs 3 crore seized in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 29 (UNI): Liquor and cash amounting to around Rs three crore has been seized by the police, excise and income tax department in Haryana ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

While stating this here on Friday, joint chief electoral officer, Haryana, Inder Jeet said the police had so far recovered cash amounting to Rs 75,02,415. Apart from this, the income tax department has so far recovered cash amount of Rs 24,05,600.

He said that the police has so far recovered 62,114 litres liquor, which is worth over Rs 1,23,17,754. The excise department has so far recovered 5,724 litres of liquor, which is worth Rs 7.79 lakh. Thus, a total of 67,838 litres of liquor has been seized by the excise and police departments, which costs Rs 1,30,96,754.

He said 52,999 license arms have so far been deposited by the Haryana police in order to maintain law and order in the state. Apart from this, the police has seized 143 illegal weapons. He said that the police has laid nakas at 327 places in the state to maintain law and order during the elections.

Inder Jeet said that the police have recovered 57,106 bottles of country-made liquor, 35,999 bottles of IMFL liquor, 6,170 bottles of beer, 583 bottles of illicit liquor, 839.85 kg hemp, 550.38 kg poppy husk, 822.15 g heroin, 1.27 kg opium, 233.43 gm smack, 670 kg lahan, 18 bottles syrup, 1,200 capsules, 16,114 tablets, 6.24 kg charas, 1.16 kg sulfa, 119.35 kg green opium and 17 kg cocaine doda.

He said that fake currency notes of face value Rs 11,700 have also been seized by the police.
