Amit Shah files nomination in Gandhinagar amid show of strength by NDA
Gandhinagar, Mar 30 (IBNS): Amid the show of strength by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Saturday filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha Election 2019.
Shah is contesting from Gandhinagar, which is presently held by BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani.
Prior to filing nomination, the BJP national president held a roadshow and a rally in presence of BJP leaders and Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh.
Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of BJP ally Shiv Sena, was also present.
Addressing the rally prior to filing nomination, Shah on Saturday said he is lucky to get an opportunity to become an MP from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, which was held by stalwarts like late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani.
"Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani remained the MPs of Gandhinagar. I am fortunate that BJP has given me an opportunity to contest and become an MP from Gandhinagar," Shah said.
He added, "I am going to file nomination from Gandhinagar constituency today. I am remembering the days of 1982 when I was the president of a small booth."
Former Prime Minister late Vajpayee and senior BJP member Advani remained MPs from Gandhinagar for a long time. Gandhinagar is considered to be a BJP bastion.
Advani, who is the sitting MP of Gandhinagar, has been denied ticket by his party to contest the upcoming General Election which will decide whether Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister for the second straight term or not.
Along with Advani, veteran Murli Manohar Joshi has also been asked by the BJP not to contest the forthcoming polls.
Shah on Saturday also urged people to make BJP win in all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.
The BJP chief is presently a Rajya Sabha MP from his home state Gujarat.
