Punjab: Woman murdered by unknown assailants in Phagwara

Phagwara, Mar 30 (UNI) An elderly woman was reportedly murdered by some unknown assailants at her residence in local Adarsh Nagar locality.

The deceased Satnam Kaur(58), was murdered late Friday night.

Superintendent of Police, Phagwara Mandeep Singh who rushed to the spot after receiving the news of the murder told this correspondent here on Saturday morning that the deceased was living alone on the ground floor of her house for the last several years after the death of her husband Baldev Singh, while her son Manmohan was residing in Canada along with his family.

SP Singh said the deceased had rented one portion of her first floor to one elderly identified as Ram Saran(84) and another portion to a school teacher namely Sandeep Kumar.Sandeep who usually took morning tea with the deceased went to her room on not finding her where he discovered her strangulated.

Her neck was found tied with a dupatta.SP Singh said the police have registered case under section 302 IPC and kept her body in the hospital mortuary after autopsy was conducted in the civil hospital Phagwara.

He said her son is being informed. CCTV cameras are being scanned to investigate the matter, while dog and finger prints expert squads too have been summoned.

Surprisingly not even a single article was found missing, said SP Mandeep Singh who expressed his doubts about enmity as cause of the murder.
