No alliance with AAP in Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi takes final call

New Delhi, Mar 31 (IBNS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi has taken a final decision of not forming an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi and conveyed the same to party veteran and former chief minister of the national capital, Sheila Dikshit, media reports said.

The decision was taken at a late night meeting by Rahul Gandhi.

It was conveyed to Dikshit, who is the head of the Delhi Congress unit, by party leaders PC Chacko and KC Venugopal.

According to reports, Dikshit had earlier warned Rahul and his mother Sonia Gandhi in a letter that an alliance with the AAP would hurt the Congress in the long run.

A formal announcement in the matter is expected later in the day.

The Congress leaders met at Dikshit's home also to shortlist candidates for the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has already declared candidates for six seats, accusing the Congress of refusing an alliance.

According to reports, the Congress is upset with the AAP for offering only one of Delhi's seven seats in a tie-up.

The Congress had reportedly demanded three seats.

Delhi goes for voting on May 12 and the results will be announced on May 23.
