New Delhi, Apr 1 (IBNS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who has decided to contest from two seats this time in the Lok Sabha polls, on Sunday said if his Congress is voted back to power then it will fill up 22 lakh job vacancies in the government by Mar 31, 2020.

"Today, there are 22 Lakh job vacancies in Government. We will have these vacancies filled by 31st March, 2020. Devolution of funds from the Center to each State Govt for healthcare, education etc. will be linked to these vacant positions being filled," Gandhi tweeted.

Amethi and Wayanad: Rahul Gandhi decides to contest from 2 seats

The Congress announced on Sunday that Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha polls from both Amethi and Wayanad in south.

Amethi is considered as a Congress stronghold.

BJP targets Rahul Gandhi over decision to contest from 'minority dominated seat'

Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad tried to corner Rahul Gandhi over his decision to contest from two seats and said he decided to contest from Wayanad as it is dominated by minority voters.

"Why did Rahul Gandhi go to Wayanad? We found the truth that as per 2011 census, the seat has around 49 per cent Hindus and the rest are minorities," Prasad told media.

The Telegraph reported that Muslims make up 28 per cent of Wayanad’s population while Christians account for 21 per cent. Hindus make up another 49 per cent — with 20 per cent tribal and 29 per cent non-tribal communities — while Jains make up the rest.

Prasad said Gandhi was feeling unsafe in Amethi.

"Feeling unsafe, unsure and facing defeat in Amethi Rahul Gandhi seeks a safe miniority dominated seat in #Wayanad Kerala at the request of Muslim League and CPM crying loudly.Where is Gathbandhan slipping?," Prasad tweeted.

Union Minister Smiti Irani has alleged that Rahul is aware that he is going to lose from Amethi.

Reacting to Irani's comments, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said Prime Minister Narendra modi also took similar decision during 2014 Lok Sabha polls and left the Gujarat eat while retaining Varanasi.

Surjewala said that the decision was taken because the south wing of the party wanted the Congress President to do so in order to boost the confidence among cadres.

Surjewala informed that Rahul was requested to contest from three southern states - Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

By representing Wayanad, which borders Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi would be able to represent the other states as well, he told media.

Voting for the seven-phased Lok Sabha polls will start from Apr 11.

The last phase of polling will be held on May 19.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
