Bhojpuri film star to take on SP leader Akhilesh Yadav in Azamgarh, BJP drops Somaiya
New Delhi, Apr 3 (UNI) Seeking to give a tough fight to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a known socialist bastion Azamgarh, BJP on Wednesday fielded Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Lal Yadav from the constituency while the party named Dinesh Pratap Singh as the nominee against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli.
According to the announcement made by BJP CEC Secretary J P Nadda, the party decided to drop its sitting member Kirit Somaiya from Mumbai North East constituency and replaced him by Mulund corporator Manoj Kotak.
The BJP also decided to field former Congress leader Dinesh Pratap Singh against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
BJP ally in Maharashtra Shiv Sena had opposed Somaiya's renomination from the seat.Mr Somaiya won from the segment ,which has overwhelming majority Gujarati community, in 1999 and 2014.
In 2004, Late Gurudas Kamat won the seat defeating Somaiya while in 2009, NCP candidate Sanjay Patil wrested the seat.
According to the list, BJP candidate from Mainpuri against SP veteran Mulayam Singh will be Prem Singh Shakya who has contested against Tej Pratap Singh Yadav from the same seat in 2014.
BJP candidate from Firozabad is Chandra Sen Jadun, will take on Shivpal Yadav, president of the newly floated Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) and also SP candidate and sitting MP Akshay Yadav.
The saffron party also announced Machhlishahr (SC) Reserved seat candidate V P Saroj.
